Fall Back into Wordcount

Posted on September 16, 2008. Filed under: blog publicity, no one trick pony, novels, platform, second novel, writer angst |

OK, I’m over my pout about blogging for publicity. It’s a necessary evil and I’m determined to learn. I even signed up for some blogs to follow, as the good folks at Blogger urged me to do. I guess this is progress. Before my editor at Abingdon starts the editing process on The Fence My Father Built, I wanted to tell her I’m not a “one-trick pony,” as my pal Melody always says. The editor said it’s too soon for a series idea (I have a series for the Murkee novel) but do I have any stand-alones? Anxiety ensued. I do have two more novels. One, To The Edge of Wonderland, is a book I once had a big deal agent for, that a National Book Award nominee raved about. It’s uh, been sitting in the bottom drawer since said agent couldn’t sell it. That was ten years ago. Might need a bit of work, you say?
The other, Hiding From Floyd, is about half finished. I was rolling along on it quite nicely and then a valued friend hated it so it went to keep the Wonderland book company in the drawer. I know, I’m not supposed to be so tempermental. But it threw me and suddenly I couldn’t write another word. Now the middle child (The Fence novel) is getting to the head of the line and I’m torn on which of the other two to work on first.
Wonderland is finished, albeit in a much earlier stage of my writing skills. Floyd has better writing but I’m still unsure if it should be a literary/mainstream novel or more “Christian novel lite.” Vote for your favorite.
