Baja Miracles

Posted on March 21, 2008. Filed under: Uncategorized |

I complained about having to go on this trip. I’d miss Holy Week. I’d miss Easter at my church. I had a ton of writing to do when Spring Break arrived, and now I was going on a decadent excursion to Baja Mexico. How would I get anything done? Besides, I felt horribly guilty about the fact that my wonderful relatives, Unca Jer and Katy, are footing the bill. We’re staying in style–a luxury condo on the beach at Puerto Penasco. I don’t really deserve it. Blah, blah, blah.
But as usual, God uncovers miracles in spite of my grousing. Last night we all watched a full moon rise and God took some wispy clouds and made a mermaid’s tail for the moon. We all stood there in wonder. I was transformed from a martyr into a celebrant.
The weather is great, the location breathtaking, the hosts gracious. So get over it, I tell myself. Try for once in your life to have a little fun. Forget all the troubles back in Oregon. Forget that Barack Obama’s coming to my hometown of Eugene–TODAY. Try to forget.
Getting an internet connection up and running has helped a lot. And I don’t have any earth-shaking stuff to report. I’m just going to get some sun, read a good book and maybe even have a margarita. I’ll make myself a little altar on this Good Friday. Tomorrow I’ll pray and watch tonight and on Sunday I’ll shout Alleluia to the brown pelicans on the beach.
